HDB's Policy on Disallowing Cats in Flats

I am sure by now, everyone is aware of HDB's stance on cats in flats.

As cat lovers residing in HDB, many of us are trying to convince & persuade HDB to review this policy. HDB's current view of cats are quote "cats defecating at the common area, noise nuisance, cats entering into flat, shedding of fur etc". They claimed to have receive around 500 cat-related complaints each year. We all know, that cats are not the main culprits of these acts.

72.3% of Singaporeans reside in 4-room & above HDB flats as of 2004 (source: Singapore Department of Statistics). This number can be higher if we include 3 rooms & below. So for 500 complaints each year, in the words of Mrs Goh Chok Tong, is peanuts!

And yet, HDB is using this number as one of their reasons to rule out cats in flats.

If you, like many of us, think this is an unreasonable basis, please, please write to Mrs. Fo0-Ho of HDB at fym2@hdb.gov.sg & cc. to feedback_unit@mcys.gov.sg.

United, we can make a difference.
