Cats & Dating

Cats & dating don't necessarily go hand in hand. Unlike a bloke with a dog who naturally draws 'oohs' & 'ahhs' from the girls, when it comes to single women with cats & a bloke, in his mind, it usually translates to "she's that crazy cat lady".

The dating life was good when I had Beauty. She's a gorgeous cat & the guy would go "you are so kind, adopting such a beautiful cat from a shelter". Yes, good impression. Score! More dates with him cos according to him, I'm nice :)

Then 2 cats. Still not too bad, still managed to leave a pretty good impression. Right.

Then 7 cats - 3 adults 4 kittens and the fun begins.

"7??? Did you say 7?"

"Yes, 7" with a deadpan expression.

"You must be very busy then. Maybe we should catch up another time." If you read between the lines, he meant - "you've got to be kidding if you think I'm gonna take you out, you crazy cat lady!"

Needless to say, dry spells for the next few months.

Now armed with 5 cats, I'm back in the dating game. Last week, first date. All went well, nice looking chap, lots in common, yap about everything & nothing & then he had to ask the question towards the end of the night.

"What's with those scratches on your arm? In a cat fight? haha"

"Well, yeah ... I was in a cat fight, caught between 2 cats, at home"

"Oh! you have 2 cats? How nice"

I figured, the hell with it, might as well tell the truth, the whole truth & nothing but the truth.

Took a deep breath, I replied "Actually I have 5 cats ..... &, here are their photos!" Whipped out my phone & starting scrolling the photos like a proud parent.

"Hang on, 5??? Really? .... Oh, wow .. That's alot of cats .. haha ... Wow 5..." [translation - crazy cat lady!]

"Yes, 5" *grin* "Shall we get the check?"

Oh! A surefire way to end a date real quick is tell them that you have a FIV+ve cat.

"Yes, 5 & 1 of them is a FIV"

"What's FIV?"

"Feline AIDS" *shrug*

"AIDS as in the AIDS?"

"Yes, but exist only in cats, not transmittable to humans, don't worry" *shrug again*

"You sure??!!???"

"Well, I'm still here talking to you right? So how bad can it be? Haha"

"Check please"

By the way, the bloke from the first date, asked me out again! He must be that crazy cat guy. :)

Cat, you are so right. I never really noticed the "boy with dog good, girl with cat bad" discrimination before.

It's great that you're honest with him from the start, and EVEN better that he's taking well to it so far! This sounds like a good thing... attagirl! All best!

Alright, Cat! Anyway, your cats will help you attract the right kind of warm, loving and compassionate guys. Have fun on your dates. ;)

Hmm...are you managing all 5 cats alone, stop cat fights, plus take care of the house all by yourself?

Thank you all. Fingers & toes cross that the 2nd one works out to be as good as the 1st!

I didn't intend to write this entry until I related this story to a colleague of mine & she was laughing so hard, I thought, why not, share it on the web.

Auntie P - yes, I'm doing all of this by myself, although my part-time help comes in once a week to do the heavy duty work like IRONING!!! ARRGGGHH!!!!!!!!

But yes, refereeing the cats & everything else, is all I, me & myself...

let me tell you a true, heartwarming story.

i met my current husband (yes you heard me) from a pub. i had 3 cats then.

i heard that he adopted 3 cats previously but alas, evil mother threatened to let loose all of them, so he had no choice but to return the 3 to the foster.

i chose to marry him because of the fact that he adopted not one, not two but three! (actually later i found out he was coerced into adopting them by the foster's very persuasive sister!)

now we live happily ever after with SIX cats!

nb : he is happy most times, not happy when i want to adopt some more..

Hmmm, I've never dated a cat lady before. The Wife would not allow that. Hahaha...Wifey, joke only ah...if you are reading. Kekeke...

I told my wife before that if I were to die now, she should remarry but that dude must love and accept our 5 lovelies.

And if it was her who go first, then I think I will stay single. I don't think any woman would want to share her man with 5 cats and her clothes full of cat hair. I love them more than any woman, except for the Wife lah.
